What to do if you find a Seal
Although finding a seal that is sick or injured is not perhaps something you expect to find, if you live or often spend time on the coast where seals may be present, it is worth knowing what to do in such a situation.

Seal Sanctuary
There are many seal sanctuaries located around the UK including The Seal Sanctuary in Mablethorpe, , The National Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall, and Natureland Seal Sanctuary in Skegness.

Seal Rescue
Seals have been known to frequently become tangled in fishing line and this can be lethal to a seal, causing a slow and painful death. It is also not uncommon for young seals to sometimes be left by their mothers for short periods whilst they go off to fish and many people may confuse this with the pup being abandoned.

Seals are hunted for their hides, for either commercial or personal uses. Although it would seem that regulations for this are reasonably strict there are still countless reports of barbaric treatment when killing seals, including skinning the seals alive, sealers...

Leopard Seals
The leopard seal is a carnivorous mammal that lives in the frigid Antarctica and sub Antarctic waters, although they have also been spotted on the South African and Australian coastlines.

Harp Seals
The harp seal is native within the northernmost Atlantic Ocean and the adjacent parts of the Arctic Ocean. They grow to approximately 5.5ft long and will weigh around 115-180kg, with the male being distinctly larger then the female.

Elephant Seals
Elephant seals exist in two species, Northern and Southern and as the names may suggest, they are located in different parts of the world.
